It has been proven that the Kamptal lakes are among the waters with the most fish in Austria. The Ottenstein reservoir is the largest of the three Kamptal reservoirs. In the area of the upper section, starting below the Zwettl monastery, there is still a flow section, depending on the water level, which gradually merges into the reservoir area. Downstream the lake becomes wider and wider and fjord-like bays open into the completely undeveloped forest landscape. Further downstream in the direction of Ottenstein, the lake reaches a width of several hundred metres in sections. Picturesque bays with wide branches invite the angler as well as the nature lover to linger.
The Dobra reservoir is smaller than the Ottensteiner See. The mostly steeply sloping, rugged, rocky and wooded shores characterise the scenic character of the lake.
Fishing boats can be hired in Ottenstein from the EVN boat rental company, in Dobra from the campsite and from some room rental companies in the surrounding area.
