Austria's steepest steam cog railway has led from St. Wolfgang in the Salzkammergut to the 1,783-metre-high Schafberg since 1893. In 35 minutes it climbs 1,190 meters and 5.85 km. The nostalgic cogwheel steam locomotives are among the oldest in the world (built in 1893,1894). Four modern steam locomotives (built 1992, 1995), two diesel railcars (built 1964) and one diesel-electric locomotive (built 2010) are also running on the line.
Boat trips on Lake Wolfgang have existed since the time of the Emperor - in 1873 the paddle-steamer "Emperor Franz Josef I.""stabbed" in Lake Wolfgang for the first time; at that time it was praised as a "technical achievement". The 33m long nostalgia ship has already been a star in numerous films and is still part of the fleet. Today the fleet counts six motor ships with the flagship "Salzburg" at the top. The largest ship is the "Austria", with a capacity of 365 passengers.
