Everything new - everything different
Since November 2014, the Graz Fairytale Railway has once again been travelling through the depths of Graz's Schloßberg. Originally, the branching tunnel system provided shelter for the people of Graz during the Second World War. Since the 1960s, visitors have enjoyed rides on the old Grottenbahn. Much has changed since then.
During the ride on the fairy tale train, they hear numerous quotes from well-known fairy tales. Many of them probably look familiar to them. They encounter motifs and elements from fairy tales, even though there are no concrete fairy tale figures and depictions. They visit a witch's house, travel through a fairytale forest, discover a robbers' den and much more. Enough exciting opportunities to imagine their own fairy tale worlds!
At some stations they are invited to join in. Objects can be explored with a torch, a giant stands in the way and perhaps they still remember the spell that opens the treasure cave. After about half an hour, the journey through the cool tunnels of the Schloßberg ends.
Good to know...
We recommend the ride for children aged 4 and over.
It is not possible to leave the train early.
Please note that during the ride, parts of the tunnel are in the dark and some (even older) children may become frightened. Please consider whether your child is old enough for a ride.
The temperature in the mountain is 8 to 12°C all year round, so we recommend suitable clothing.
