Tratzberg Castle - Renaissance Jewel among Austria's Castles
First mentioned in a document in the 13th century, Tratzberg Castle was a former border fortress against Bavaria and served Emperor Maximilian I as a hunting lodge. However, the original fortress was completely destroyed by fire in the late 15th century.
To this day, it is only thanks to the great efforts of the family that the approx. 6800 square metre Tratzberg, with its 5000 square metre shingle roof, has once again become the epitome of a Tyrolean castle of the 16th century and thus one of the most important art and cultural monuments in the country and is open to the general public for viewing.
Our original guided tour, which accompanies visitors through 500 years of Tratzberg's history by means of an entertaining and exciting radio play, is available in German, English, French, Italian, Dutch, Spanish, Hungarian and Japanese (for Russian guests we are happy to provide a detailed written script).
Duration of the guided tour: 1 hour
The castle tour is only available as part of this guided tour.
As an option, we offer a completely new, exciting virtual reality show as part of our adventure tour, in which the visitor experiences "live" how the original castle complex was destroyed and the castle built around 1500.
Children's tour
Our little guests experience an exciting fairytale tour via audio guide - at the same time as their parents. They meet a "real" knight and search the rooms for our castle ghost Tratzi and his mouse friend Adele, who are up to all sorts of mischief. At the end, an exciting quiz awaits the children and, with a bit of luck, they may even win a prize.
The children's tour is available in German, English, Italian and Dutch.
We recommend the children's tour from the age of approx. 4 years.
It takes place daily during regular opening hours.
Children discover the castle at the same time as their parents, but hear an exciting fairytale version of the castle's history.
