"Land of mountains, land by the stream" - this first line of the Austrian national anthem gives a first impression of what awaits visitors in this beautiful country. It also applies perfectly to Lake Achen and its surroundings. Here you encounter perfect examples of both impressive mountain scenery and a crystal-clear stream in the disguise of Lake Achen.
Nature enthusiasts fall in love at first sight with the breath-taking panorama. Each side of the lake offers its very own perspective, making it hard to say which one is the most beautiful. Along the eastern shore, the state highway passes directly by the water, offering travellers a view of the lake and, perhaps, also seducing them to spend their next family vacation here. The western banks, meanwhile, are lined with steep limestone walls that invite climbers and hikers to catch a magnificent view from one of the viewpoints above.
Summer activities
For some, a demanding hike already counts as relaxation and recreation, while others prefer to simply lie in the sun, put one foot into the water and let their everyday behind. Of course, this is also possible at Lake Achen. Wellness is highly valued here, and the unique Tyrolean rock oil produced at Lake Achen and applied in oil wraps, massages, and oil baths in many spas and hotels in the region certainly aren't the only offer.
Lake Achen is also a great choice for an active vacation. Sailing, windsurfing and kite surfing - these three sports have become integral parts of the lake and its community. Besides this, many activities for children are offered, crowned by a special children's program during the summer season.
